Prerequisites

To ensure a successful and enriching experience, participants must meet the following prerequisites:

1. Completion of Beginner or Intermediate Level Match Racing Course:

– Participants must have successfully completed a recognized Beginner or Intermediate Level Match Racing Course.

– This ensures a foundational understanding of match racing techniques, terminology, and on-water maneuvers.

2. Proficient Sailing Skills:

– Participants should possess proficient sailing skills, including a sound understanding of boat handling, wind awareness, and basic navigation.

– Experience in match racing scenarios is essential, demonstrating the ability to navigate competitive situations on the water.

3. Familiarity with Advanced Match Racing Concepts:

– A basic understanding of advanced match racing concepts, tactics, and strategies is required.

– Participants should be prepared to delve deeper into strategic aspects of match racing during the course.

4. Physical Fitness:

– Advanced match racing may involve more demanding maneuvers and physical exertion. Participants should be in good physical condition to fully engage in on-water activities.

5. Sailing Resume:

– A sailing resume highlighting previous match racing experience, regatta participation, and any relevant achievements will be beneficial.

– The resume assists the coaching team in tailoring the course to the participants’ skill levels and areas of focus.

6. Passion for Advancing Skills:

– Participants should have a genuine passion for advancing their match racing skills and a commitment to actively participate in the learning process.

7. Equipment Knowledge:

– Familiarity with sailing equipment, especially the J22 class sailboat, is advantageous.

– Participants should be comfortable with boat rigging, sail adjustments, and other technical aspects related to match racing.

8. Positive Team Spirit:

– Advanced match racing often involves coordinated team efforts. Participants should possess a positive team spirit, willingness to collaborate, and effective communication skills.

Schedule:

Day 0: Friday – Pre-course Meeting

Evening Session (Before 20:00)

1. Arrival and Check-in at Univela (Before 20:00)

– Participants are required to arrive on Friday evening before 20:00.

– Meet and greet with the academy team.

– Check-in at Univela, the accommodation for whom has booked the package option

– Parking is included.

 

Day 1: Saturday – Mastering Match Racing Essentials

Morning Session (09:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

2. Welcome and Registration (09:00 AM – 09:30 AM)

– Sign-in and distribution of advanced course materials.

– Brief overview of the advanced curriculum and key focus areas.

3. Advanced Concepts in Match Racing (09:30 AM – 10:15 AM)

– In-depth exploration of advanced match racing strategies and tactics.

– Analysis of historical match racing events and renowned strategies.

– Refinement of crew roles and responsibilities in advanced match racing scenarios.

4. Safety Enhancements and Advanced Equipment Familiarization (10:15 AM – 11:00 AM)

– Elevated safety considerations in advanced match racing situations.

– Comprehensive review of advanced sailing equipment, safety gear, and communication devices.

– Hands-on practice with advanced sailing gear and emergency procedures.

5. Break and Refreshments (11:00 AM – 11:15 AM)
6. Onshore Mastery – Advanced Knots and Rigging Techniques (11:15 AM – 12:00 PM)

– Practical session on mastering complex sailing knots essential for advanced maneuvers.

– In-depth understanding and hands-on practice of advanced rigging techniques.

– Participants that have booked accommodation package can have lunch at Univela Beach Restaurant.

 

On-Water Advanced Practical Session (01:00 PM – 04:00 PM)
8. Boarding and Departure for Advanced Sailing (01:00 PM – 01:15 PM)

– Boarding the J22 sailboats with a focus on advanced preparations.

– Advanced safety checks and communication protocols for high-level sailing.

9. Mastering Advanced Sailing Maneuvers (01:15 PM – 03:00 PM)

– Advanced hands-on experience with precision steering and intricate boat maneuvers.

– Advanced sail trim techniques and mastering wind nuances.

– In-depth training on advanced tacking, gybing, and strategic sailing maneuvers.

10. Tactical Debrief and Strategic Analysis (03:00 PM – 04:00 PM)

– Comprehensive review and strategic analysis of the day’s advanced lessons.

– Preparation and strategic planning for the next day’s advanced activities.

 

Day 2: Sunday – Advancing Practical Skills

– Recap of the previous day’s lessons.

– Overview of the day’s agenda and focus on advanced topics.

12. On-Water Advanced Boat Handling (09:30 AM – 11:30 AM)

– Advanced sailing maneuvers tailored for experienced sailors.

– In-depth exploration of spinnaker handling techniques.

– Practical exercises in challenging sailing conditions.

13. Breakfand Refreshments (11:30 AM – 11:45 AM)

14. Lunch Break (11:45 AM – 12:45 PM)

– Relaxed lunch break with opportunities for informal discussions and networking.

15. Advanced Match Racing Simulation (12:45 PM – 03:00 PM)

– Introduction to advanced match racing tactics, strategies, and maneuvers.

– Live simulation of a complex match racing scenario with fellow participants.

– Continuous guidance and feedback from experienced instructors.

16. Debrief, Certificates, and Closing (03:00 PM – 04:00 PM)

– Debriefing on the advanced match racing simulation and individual performances.

– Distribution of participation certificates recognizing the completion of the Advanced Level Course.

– Closing remarks, discussions on further skill development, and information on advanced courses.

 

Meals Schedule

(For participants that have booked the accommodation package)

– Breakfast: 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM

– Lunch: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM

– Dinner: 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM

 

Additional Information:

– Parking is included for participants that have booked the accommodation package. The others can book the parking at Univela Rooms reception desk.

– Gym access is included.

– Classrooms are provided.

– Participants should bring their technical clothing. In case they don’t have any, the academy can provide them with technical clothes.

 

Course Conclusion: Sunday Afternoon

17. Check-out from Univela (Sunday Afternoon)

– Participants will check-out from Univela in the afternoon.

– Optional post-course discussions and networking.

2. Course with Accommodation and Full Board:

– Price: €450 per participant

– Description: Includes the 2-day match racing course along with 2 nights of accommodation in triple or quadruple rooms at Univela and full board meals provided at Univela Beach Restaurant.

– Possibility to upgrade the accommodation at Univela Rooms and Apartments using special price reserved to participants

– Minimum Participants:

The course requires a minimum of 6 participants to proceed.

– Maximum Participants:

The course can accommodate a maximum of 8 participants.

Participants opting for the package with accommodation will stay in triple or quadruple rooms at Univela.
